Ah, gotta love malicious compliance.
hehe Being on-call used to mean you got extra money whether you got called in or not ($x/week).
If you got called in, they paid you four hours at overtime rates (time and a half) even for a 5 minute fix.
@gnoll110 @davidaugust And that, kids, is how my dad paid for our summer holidays back in the 70s and 80s - by being on-call as a telephone engineer over the Christmas period. I think it was DOUBLE time and a half and minimum 2-hour jobs, but the same principle applies…
@gnoll110 @davidaugust We need to redo all overtime rules removing ALL the exceptions. YOU get paid for every hour worked. Period.
@gnoll110 @davidaugust that’s how it should be. If I have to be on call it means I can’t do a variety of things including say, being out of mobile service, having a beer, etc. those are things I like to do in MY time. If you deny me those things you should be paying for it.
@HLGEM @gnoll110 @davidaugust if you are on call and not working you still should be paid some base rate for availability as it restricts your activities during on call time.
@davidaugust @robabram @gnoll110 corporate law has regressed since the 1980s, corporate power has grown.
@hyc @davidaugust @robabram @gnoll110
People just let it happen and did not fight for the rights we inherited from those who fought for them before us.
Really sad.
@MaryMarasKittenBakery @hyc @davidaugust @robabram @gnoll110 but but but……
We were told “greed is good” “trickle down will make you serfs RICH!”?
@patricklee @MaryMarasKittenBakery @hyc @robabram @gnoll110 😝 well said.
Trickle up works, let’s try that out for a while.
