Where is the AI app that turns an overproduced 10 minute YouTube video answering a simple question back into text that takes 20 seconds to read?
@mattmight The trick is to watch some low quality video with just barely legible audio or even just some text thrown on screen that lasts like a couple of minutes.
GIMME
@mattmight
This is the reason why I don't like e.g. learning videos. I can't change the speed. While reading a text, I can set my speed to my needs. And it works better on paper based documents than electronic presentations, because it's better for speed reading.
@chefkoch77
@mattmight Another example of Google ruining the internet: YouTube only promotes videos that keep you watching YouTube as long as possible. The most popular, arguably, are the least helpful.
@mattmight I'll tell you, but first a word from our sponsor, Raid: Shadow Legend.
@mattmight there's no money in that, so it will never be built.
@mattmight https://www.giyst.com/ maybe?
@mattmight oh what I would give for such a thing
@mattmight its called google…
@mattmight chatgpt
@mattmight here you go: YouTube summary with ChatGPT
@mattmight
Closest so far is r/savedYouAClick at reddit, which helps summarize clickbait articles and slideshows. Not AI, but it's something.
@mattmight @egghat most YouTube didn’t came to the point to make a dense, short video. It’s very easy to make a 15-30 video. And it’s easy to answer a simple question in 10 minutes.
The art and beauty is in doing it in 1-3 minutes or in 5-8 minutes instead of 20-30. it’s hard, needs a lot of planning and thinking. - that’s when most of them are lost.
I have no right to force them to do anything- I wish they‘ll do a cold open „this is solved that way - watch for more in depth infos“ 🤷♂️
@mattmight Download the subtitles, paste them un chatgpt and las for the abstract...
Actually chances are that there are api endpoints to automated It, we are pretty close.
The bad new is that It would have an associated cost for the api usage and that, at the end, chatgpt migth miss important points.
Any case, I share tour feelings.
@mattmight Amen!
@mattmight This! 👍
well, OpenAI released their translation model under an open source MIT license so this shouldn’t be too hard to make a proof-of-concept of
@mattmight Yes, absolutely needed. Videos help for how-tos but for news and almost anything else, give me print.
@mattmight It's not just videos although they are the worst offenders. Many websites answering the "how do I do X" start off by explaining what X is and why I might want to do it. JUST TELL ME HOW! I blame Google for encouraging pages of >300 words when one paragraph is all we need.
@mattmight I'm worried about the AI that turns simple questions into ten minute optimised videos... At least human effort is currently rate limiting...
@mattmight OMG YES
@mattmight oh hell yes. I nope out of SO many videos. I read MUCH faster than I can listen.
@mattmight When I'm searching for a quick how-to (for myself or to share with students), I use YouTube's filter option in the search results to only show videos under 4 minutes.
It still doesn't remove all the filler, but it helps.
@mattmight Here's a ~2 minute video from a comedy channel that pretty accurately describes most of these "must be above 10 minutes" videos -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oHoXlnv-RE
@mattmight Oh man, I am SO here for that app...
@mattmight Feed the transcript into ChatGPT.
@mattmight Or the one that produces accurate, fast captions for the Deaf/HH, or cuts the personal narrative off the top of recipes online?
[to advertising industry]: “You arrogant ass! You've killed us!”
@mattmight The best are when that eventual outcome is an inconclusive answer.
"Should you be eating organic chocolate instead?" [20 minutes of sponsor messages + 15 minutes of dithering + 5 minute tangential "expert" interview]
"Data is inconclusive, the expert opinions are mixed and the only thing we know for sure is that everybody likes chocolate!"
Well thanks for nothing?
@mattmight it's called stack overflow.
@mattmight a bit clunky, but I often view transcript, copy, paste into my AI of choice (bearly.ai) and ask it to summarise.
60% of the time it works every time
@mattmight I'd sign up in a heartbeat!
@mattmight Watch the first twenty seconds of the video. If that doesn't answer the question you wanted answered then the odds are that the rest of the video won't either.
@mattmight I fear we'll first seen the opposite direction.
@mattmight these are the questions we really should be asking
@mattmight bing ai can kinda do it if the video has a transcript
@mattmight Just abolish YouTube's algorithms that encourage longer videos, and "content creator" as a career choice. Then we can go back to how we shared information 25+ years ago.
@mattmight buried in transcription errors probably
@mattmight omg YES PLEASE!!
@mattmight @avianinvasion or one that turns a 45 minute bloated video into 10min.
Where do people find the time for all this crap.
Calling @Chartodon LR ...

We could also use one for Webpages. They often begin with a page or two of felgercarb before getting to the heart of the matter because, for some reason, that helps them get ranked higher in Google searches.
